Electric vehicles are now picking pace to become the usual thing of our daily lives. And the race to conquer the market is fully hot.
Now there’s a new horse in town, revealed by luxurious auto-maker Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX, this new car runs 100% on electricity. It would have been the usual EV rollout news but what makes it special is that Mercedes Benz Vision EQXX can cover 1000km on just a single charge of its battery, the company claimed.
And it wasn’t just on papers but went on a road trip to set the new record range on a single charge.
To prove to the world its promising and efficient battery technology, Mercedes Benz Vision EQXX hit the road from Germany to the South of France, and the condition was cold and rainy in most of the regions along the journey. The roadworks, mountain passes, and the real weather condition presented a wide variety of challenges.
The trip of the prototype wasn’t just confined to one stable speed but involved regular road speeds, and extended fast-lane cruising at up to 140km/hr.

And as a traditional backup for Mercedes Benz Vision EQXX’s power consumption in times of emergency, the car has solar cells on the roof to charge the battery which can add an additional 25km for a long-distance journey.
“The battery’s state of charge on arrival was around 15%, amounting to a remaining range of around 140km, and the average consumption was a record-making low of 8.7kWh per 100km,” the company said on its platform.
Mercedes Benz Vision EQXX’s battery is of 200 Wh/kg capacity without increasing the weight. It can store 100 kWh of energy with lesser space compared to other batteries.
The company also said it has integrated state-of-the-art silicon anodes with ultra-lightweight materials that are used in Formula 1 cars to significantly enhance its capacity.
The new weight-saving design of Mercedes Benz Vision EQXX reduced its 20% mass compared to a conventionally manufactured part. Its aerodynamic design increases the range by 20km.
While on its journey the car consumed 8.7 kWh per 100 kilometers. Its low drag coefficient of 0.17 is the lowest ever figure for a road-legal vehicle at present.
Mercedes Benz Vision EQXX reached its destination with a 140km range of battery still on.
Mercedes Benz is planning to be fully electric by 2030. Nine models are lined up by the fall of 2022, including e-versions of its B-Class and E-Class vehicles.
