Deep beneath the Alps on the Swiss-French border, a colossal titan just woke up. Scientists on April 23rd turned on the most powerful particle accelerator on the planet- The large Hadron Collider.
This particle accelerator is massive, stretching to almost 16.7 miles (27 kilometers) in circumference it is one of the most complex technologies mankind ever built.
Hadron collider is one of the most humongous projects ever undertaken. Located 100 meters below the mountains, this super-huge machine is built of superconducting magnets that are cooled at -271.3°C (-456F) which is colder than the dark space.
In 2012, Hadron Collider was the birthplace of the Higgs boson for the eyes of mankind. However, in 2018 the researchers shut down the accelerator for upgradation.

And now the scientists have successfully upgraded the machine and started the proton beam of the Hadron Collider at relatively low energy at the initial point and will increase the acceleration eventually for protons to collide at a record-high of 13.6 trillion electron volts (i.e. 600 billion more electron volts that its previous record of 13 billion electron volts) to shed more light on Higgs boson and to identify the existence of dark matter.
The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) from the Large Hadron Collider proved the existence of subatomic particle (Higgs boson) which scientists believe could be the universe’s fundamental building block at the time of the Big Bang billions of years ago.
The restart of the Large Hadron Collider may unlock the mysteries of the origin of the universe, other unknown subatomic particles, and the dark matter which is believed to be the most part of the universe.
“The collider magnets squeeze tiny particles causing them to crash together,” CERN stated on its platform.
“These particles are so tiny that lining them up to smash together is akin to firing two needles 10 km apart with such precision that they meet halfway,” CERN added.
