New Dinosaur Species With No Teeth Unearthed In Brazil…

New Dinosaur Species :

At a dig site in the state of Parana in Southern Brazil, Paleontologists unearthed the fossil of a new dinosaur species.

This specimen shows that all prehistoric lizards weren’t oversized.

This new dinosaur species is named ‘Berthasaura leopoldinae’, the name’s made using two human names, One – Bertha Lutz (1894-1976), Two – Maria Leopoldina.

Bertha Lutz was a revered Brazilian zoologist, feminist, and politician. And Maria Leopoldina was the empress of Brazil in the 19th century who loved Science.

The fossil excavated of this new dinosaur species is the most complete specimen of noasaurid found in Brazil.

Based on the researchers’ analysis of the specimen, this new dinosaur species measured about 1m (3.3 feet) in length and had no teeth, instead had a beak-like mouth.

“Berthasaura leopoldinae is the first toothless non-avian theropod known from Brazil,” said senior author Dr. Alexander Kellner, a paleontologist at the Museu Nacional Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in a report.

Paleontologists stated that they might have been omnivores or carnivores. But the researchers aren’t completely sure whether the new dinosaur species was a herbivore or a carnivore or both (omnivore).

The findings’ report was published in the journal Scientific Reports.

Fossils of other species of dinosaurs of the cretaceous era are being unearthed at a paleontological site Cemitério dos Pterossauros Quarry.

With much more and deeper analysis, the researchers are on their toes to find out more secrets of this species in the near future…
