Charging EV Will Cost Only Half The Current Price!

Charging EV :

The electrification of the automobile industry is picking its pace fast. Audi Skysphere, Aptera’s Solar Electric Car, Benz Vision AVTR, Subaru’s Soltera, Zoox Robotaxi, and Bentley EXP100 GT, the race is on to completely shift towards sustainable energy.

The era of electric vehicles (EV’s) is taking shape with more and more companies revealing their new trophies. The manufacturers are aiming to replace the complete production of their conventional models with the new EVs within the next decade.

But there’s one roadblock to this shift, the charging of these electric vehicles, they cannot be charged as fast as the fuel-consuming vehicles at low cost.

The fastest charging capacity of an EV right now is 250+ miles of range in under 15 minutes which is quite behind the conventional refueling time of a vehicle.

While big companies are trying to overcome this hurdle, a group of researchers from IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) has come up with a new technology of charging EV which costs only half of the current price as India is known to come up with ingenious technologies for the most affordable prices without spending billions of dollars.

The new charging EV technology is developed at IIT Varanasi, in collaboration with researchers from IIT Guwahati, and IIT Bhubaneswar.

This charging EV technology costs just half of the present onboard-charger technology which will help in reducing the price of two-and-four-wheeler electric vehicles.

The lab-scale development has been completed and has yielded exciting results, and is under up-gradation and commercialization, the team stated.

This new charging EV technology has caught the eyes of India’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer (the company hasn’t been revealed yet) and is in talks with IIT to develop a full-scale commercial vehicle for further tests and to apply to its existing and future EV fleet.

“The rising prices of petrol and diesel is worrisome for the common man. Amidst the rising cost of petroleum products and rising pollution levels, EVs are the best alternative to conventional IC engines but lack of high power off-board charging infrastructure forces automakers to incorporate chargers into the vehicle itself,” said Rajeev Kumar Singh, Chief Project Investigator, IIT Bhubaneswar in a report.

He also stated that with this charging EV technology the cost of the onboard charger will be reduced by almost 40-50pc compared to the existing type.

“The owner of the vehicle can charge the vehicle through the outlet and hence this leads to the Evs becoming more expensive. But with this new charging EV technology we are reducing one extra power electronics interface required for propulsion mode, and therefore, the components involved are reduced by 50pc bringing down the cost,” he told PTI.

The researchers stated that this technology will have a positive impact on environmental, techno-commercial, social, and economic situations.
