The Maha Kumbh commenced on a grand note with over 5 million (50 lakh) pilgrims taking a holy dip at the Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers converge.

Spread across 4,000 hectares, the event marks a profound confluence of faith and culture. Held every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh represents a timeless tradition, celebrated for millennia, embodying India’s spiritual essence.

The Maha Kumbh is not just a religious event; it is an economic juggernaut. The Uttar Pradesh government allocated ₹7,000 crore ($840 million) to host the Mela, anticipating massive returns. Here’s how the revenue is expected to break down:

– Hotels, tour packages, and guides are projected to contribute $1.2 billion (₹10,000 crore).
– Tent cities with Ayurveda, yoga, and wellness facilities are specially designed for over 1.5 million international tourists.

– The food sector, including local delicacies and packaged items, is estimated to generate $2.4 billion (₹20,000 crore).

The city boasts 150,000 tents, 3,000 kitchens, and nearly 145,000 restrooms. An additional 3,300 train trips have been scheduled to facilitate seamless travel.
