Call of Duty fans can now celebrate as Activision has officially confirmed that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign will be available one week before the game’s full launch.
Players who pre-order the highly anticipated shooter will gain exclusive early access to the single-player campaign beginning “October 16”, a week before the game’s worldwide release on “October 23”.
The announcement marks the return of one of the franchise’s most anticipated pre-launch bonuses, allowing players to experience the story before multiplayer servers become the primary focus of the community.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Early Access Details
According to Activision, players who digitally pre-order either the “Standard Edition” or the “Vault Edition” of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4” will receive campaign early access.
The offer applies to digital pre-orders on:
> PlayStation 5
> Xbox Series X|S
> Xbox App on PC
> Steam
> Battle.net
> Nintendo Switch 2
While pre-orders are already live on most platforms, Activision has confirmed that “Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders will open later this year”.
This means players eager to dive into the next chapter of the Modern Warfare saga can start playing the campaign a full seven days before the official release date.
A Return to Campaign Early Access
Campaign early access has become an occasional feature in the Call of Duty franchise. The last title to offer the bonus was “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023)”.
Subsequent entries, including “Black Ops 6” and “Black Ops 7”, did not provide early access to their campaigns. Black Ops 7, in particular, generated significant discussion among players due to its always-online co-op campaign structure.
With Modern Warfare 4, Activision and Infinity Ward appear to be returning to a more traditional formula by bringing back an “offline single-player campaign”, a move many longtime fans have requested.

What Is Modern Warfare 4 About?
The upcoming campaign introduces a new perspective to the Modern Warfare universe while continuing the franchise’s signature global military storytelling.
Players will step into the boots of “Private Park”, a young South Korean soldier whose unit is thrust into active combat after “North Korea launches a full-scale invasion”.
At the same time, the story follows the legendary “Captain Price”, who is operating in the shadows while tracking a deadly weapon that threatens global security.
Infinity Ward has described the campaign as a “gritty, grounded, and realistic military thriller”, focusing heavily on immersion and high-stakes warfare.
Global Locations Featured in Modern Warfare 4
One of the standout features of the Modern Warfare series has always been its cinematic globe-trotting missions, and Modern Warfare 4 looks set to continue that tradition.
Players can expect missions set across several major international locations, including:
> South Korea
> New York
> Paris
> Mumbai
These diverse environments are expected to deliver a mix of urban warfare, covert operations, and large-scale military engagements throughout the campaign.
Why This Could Be One of the Biggest Releases Yet
Modern Warfare 4 arrives at a crucial moment for the franchise. Following years of experimentation with different campaign structures and online requirements, Infinity Ward appears focused on delivering a classic Call of Duty experience that emphasizes:
> A cinematic single-player story
> Realistic military action
> Beloved characters such as Captain Price
> Offline campaign support
> Early access incentives for dedicated fans
The combination of these features could make Modern Warfare 4 one of the most anticipated Call of Duty releases in recent years.
Will Modern Warfare 4 Be on Xbox Game Pass?
Despite Microsoft’s ownership of Activision Blizzard, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch”.
Players interested in accessing the campaign early will need to purchase and digitally pre-order the game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Release Date
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide on October 23 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.”
Players who digitally pre-order the game can begin the campaign on “October 16”, gaining a full week of early access before the global launch.
With a return to offline storytelling, a globe-spanning military narrative, and the comeback of campaign early access, Modern Warfare 4 is shaping up to be one of the most significant Call of Duty releases of the generation.
