Baidu Unveils Next-Gen AI Chips and Supercomputing Platforms to Power China’s Tech Future

“Beijing, China – November 13, 2025” – Chinese tech giant “Baidu” has unveiled two cutting-edge “AI processors” and a series of “supercomputing products”, marking a major step toward “self-reliant, high-performance computing” amid intensifying U.S.-China tech tensions.

At its annual “Baidu World Technology Conference“, the company showcased its latest semiconductor innovations – the “M100” and “M300” AI chips – designed to give Chinese firms “affordable and domestically controlled computing power” at a time when access to U.S.-made AI chips is heavily restricted.

Baidu’s New AI Chips: M100 and M300

The “Baidu M100”, focused on “AI inference”, will debut in early “2026”, while the “M300”, capable of handling both “AI training” and “inference tasks”, is slated for release in “2027”.

AI “training” involves building models from massive datasets, while “inference” enables those models to generate predictions or process real-world queries – both critical stages in large-scale AI deployment.

Baidu emphasized that these chips will “reduce costs”, “enhance efficiency”, and “lessen dependency on foreign semiconductor technology”, aligning with China’s broader national goal of achieving “technological sovereignty” in advanced computing.

Supernode Computing: Baidu’s Answer to High-Performance AI Workloads

Alongside its processors, Baidu introduced two new “supernode systems”, designed to “link hundreds of AI chips” through advanced networking to deliver massive parallel computing power.

The first, called “Tianchi 256”, integrates “256 of Baidu’s P800 chips” and will launch in the “first half of 2026”. A more powerful variant, featuring “512 interconnected P800 chips”, is scheduled for release later that year.

These “supernodes” aim to rival similar products like “Huawei’s CloudMatrix 384”, which experts say already competes with “Nvidia’s GB200 NVL72” in performance – signaling China’s growing momentum in “AI infrastructure”.

Baidu Expands Ernie’s Capabilities Beyond Text

Baidu also announced a major upgrade to its flagship “Ernie large language model (LLM)”, expanding its abilities beyond text to include “image and video understanding”.

The new “Ernie model” now supports “multimodal reasoning”, a capability that enables it to process and integrate multiple types of data – a crucial step toward the next generation of “general AI systems”.

According to Baidu, this development positions Ernie as a “direct competitor to OpenAI’s GPT-5” and Google’s Gemini, while offering deeper integration with Baidu’s ecosystem, including “Baidu Search”, “Apollo autonomous driving”, and “Xiaodu smart devices”.

A Strategic Shift Amid U.S.-China Tech Rivalry

The unveiling comes as Washington tightens restrictions on “advanced U.S. chip exports to China”, pressuring Chinese tech firms like Baidu, Huawei, and Tencent to “innovate domestically”.

By creating “AI chips and supercomputing clusters in-house”, Baidu is effectively “future-proofing its AI operations” and reducing exposure to global supply chain disruptions.

“Baidu’s strategy is not just about surviving the chip ban – it’s about thriving beyond it,” said “Dr. Li Yanhong (Robin Li)”, Baidu’s CEO, during the event. “With the M-series processors and Tianchi systems, we are building the foundation for China’s AI independence.”

As the global AI race intensifies, “China’s investment in homegrown semiconductor technology” is reshaping the balance of power in artificial intelligence.
